FOR THE WORLD'S MOST PRECIOUS VIOLINS,
LUXURY & PROTECTION IN CARBON FIBER & LEATHER.
In 2003 I set out to design and build violin cases that combined exceptional strength with elegance, durability and comfort of use - a case fit for the rarest and most precious musical instruments.
After 3 years of research involving some of the world’s leading violin makers, I settled on hand builiding in the south west of England. The shell of the case is hand laid carbon fibre, the exterior French calfskin and the lining high density foam covered in hand painted silk velvet.
Every component in our cases is custom made – the hinges are milled from blocks of aluminium, the handle from marine grade stainless steel – even the screws are machined for us. Each Calder case is built to order and takes over 35 hours to complete.
England has a long history of fine violin case making - the cases of W.E Hill and Mick Gordge are world-renowned. I have drawn inspiration from the work of these masters and seek to take case making to new levels by combining traditional skills with high technology.
